As part of the Optimum Skills monthly Employee Voice meetings, one member from each team is given one of our core values to reflect on how this fits into their job role and our overall culture.
Embrace Diversity
“I think that at Optimum Skills everyone is encouraged to embrace diversity on a daily basis. I feel that everyone recognises the benefit of this and that we all definitely embrace it. We encounter many learners from every walk of life and it is critical that we continue to embrace diversity and recognise the beneficial aspects that it brings. Hot Topics are used with learners, of with Equality and Diversity often forms a part, I’d love to see suggestions/examples of Equality and Diversity success stories shared from all staff to help with the hot topics in the classroom but also on a general basis too.” – Ethan (Short Course Team Leader)
Demonstrate Professionalism Always
“In my role, I demonstrate professionalism by always acting with responsibility and integrity and being accountable for all that I do. This applies to representing the company both in the office and on-site visits when I attend for photographs, videos and other marketing requirements. I maintain professionalism by staying respectful of all learners, apprentices, and employers I meet, as I am always representing the company. This also means that in the office when I interact with colleagues, I demonstrate professionalism by being respectful of others, being accountable for what I do, and following all company protocols and best practices. Building a culture of professionalism means that people strive to do their best and achieve their goals, follow all company policies and procedures and that everyone acts in a respectful way to others in and out of the business, from employers to office visitors.” – Kayleigh (Digital Marketing Executive)
Challenge Constructively
“Challenge constructively within Optimum Skills means to be able to challenge at all levels in the company. This provides everyone with a voice and if used in the correct way, you can put forward your thoughts and ideas to help drive the business while optimising potential. For me, challenge constructively gives me the opportunity to bring ideas to the table that others might not have thought of or agree with. By challenging others or being challenged myself, it opens up the way to help learners and Optimum Skills.” – Terri (Recruitment Manager)
Innovate Through Learning
“To me, this means that in my role it is thinking of ways to streamline processes whilst still being funded and audit compliant. Making suggestions of ways to promote what we deliver using the experience I have gained in previous roles I have been in with other employers.” – Christine (Auditor)
Act with Honesty and Integrity
“What this means to me is always being true to myself and others. Displaying honesty with colleagues, customers, learners, and anyone that may require Optimum Skills services. Always acting with honesty will reassure others to trust and rely on us when needed.” – Rachel (Construction Engagement Manager)
Achieve the Highest Quality
“I believe we can achieve the highest quality by working together and seeking help. Quality is sometimes lacking because people are scared to ask for assistance and muddle through. Seeking help and sharing best practices will improve how we operate and improve our knowledge.” – Scott (Business Development Manager)
Be Accountable and Own It
“Being accountable for your own actions builds trust with others within the team and organisation. Also taking responsibility for your actions whether they be good or bad has an impact of transparency in the company. Colleagues are dependant on me getting my work done and without me taking accountability, work would not get done correctly. Taking ownership in my job is about taking initiative and doing the right thing for the business.” – Jack (MIS Apprentice)
